i’ve rejoined the galactic forces with my return to the star wars universe and dark horse comics. many moons ago i enjoyed leaving my stamp in lucas’ world when i worked on the rpg in it’s various incarnations, whether it was through west end games or wizards of the coast.
the image below is the cover to dark horse’s star wars: the clone wars v2, Crash Course. the listing states fellow artist and studio mate scott hepburn (who is working on his own star wars book, which looks phenomenal!) as the books cover artist… LIES, ALL LIES!
enjoy…

been a bit quiet of late as i’ve been going through a legal battle with my landlord. it’s not pretty and very draining, financially and mentally!
the battle still rages but life has to go on at the same time. to keep myself relatively busy for the next 30 days or so, i’ve signed on to do an issue of the upcoming dark horse series star wars: clone wars, not sure if that’s the official title, but it’s coming out to coincide with the upcoming animated movie.
i’m scheduled to do issue two. issue one is being handled by my fellow tx’er, scott hepburn! it looks like loads of fun, and i get to revisit the good ol’ days of drawin’ me some star wars.
i’ve already pencilled the cover and am waiting on approvals before i head off to inks. so if don’t think i’m allowed to share that just yet. i’ve also started laying out and pencilling the issue. due to the movie tie-in aspect of the book, i am going to be tackling the art in a much more cartoony fashion, akin to my work on kukuburi.
should be fun!
i’ll share what i can, when i can.
till then, below is a digital doodle of an alien species appearing in the book. they’ve appeared before in books but never been depicted. so i get to leave my stamp on the star wars universe!
cheers.

an uncoloured page from part 2 of the wildcat arc in jsa classified issue 36, which hit shelves last week!

well it seems 2008 has arrived and i haven’t updated since october of 2007, sad, very sad.
well first off, HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all who might actually still be perusing this blog!
so, what have i been up to? well, it’s been a busy year since the end of last summer’s convention season. first there is the weekly webcomic i do with rob coughler; BUTTERNUTSQUASH, which is thankfully on hiatus wit hsome great guest strips by some of the industries sooper talents! please check it out if you can!
i also launched KUKUBURI my solitary venture into webcomics. we’re just about to hit the halfway mark in the story, so if you haven’t done so yet please give it a read
aside from other corporate work (some pinup girls, a children’s storybook) which i’ll share once i can, i’ve also been working on a three issue story for DC’s JSA: CLASSIFIEDS starring WILDCAT! written by a man i’ve been itching to work with for ages (ever since i read HAWAIIAN DICK) the talented B. Clay Moore and coloured by Dave McCaig (of NEXTWAVE and THE OTHER SIDE fame) this comic has been a joy to work on!
the first issue of the arc will be hitting stores on FEBRUARY 27th, so please contact your local comic’s retailer and get them to order you a copy of JSA: CLASSIFIED #35 and make DC happy and myself look good
below is a sneak peek from issue one.
thanks for the support!
cheers,
ramon.

…well half the cover. it’s a wrap around, by why spoil the whole surprise…

when i first started freelancing as an illustrator i began my career by doodling up pictures for roleplaying games. the bloke who gave me my first job was kevin siembieda of palladium books, creator of the rifts® universe! as my years progressed with palladium i proposed a comic idea for their quarterly publication the rifter®. he liked the idea and gave it the go ahead.
on may 4-6 i will be attending the palladium open house taking place at their offices in taylor michigan. i will be doing sketches, hocking bns swag and happily signing copies of the newly collected ‘machinations of doom’, a sourcebook collecting the comic from 7 years ago into one book.

the entire story has been relettered, i’ve touched up some of the pages and added a slew of original art into the sourcebook section where kevin has gone in and fleshed out the main cast based on my notes. i’ve also done a new cover for the collection and layed out the entire book myself. it’s been a busy month!
if you can’t make it out to the show the book will be available through better games and comic stores as well as barnes and noble.
thought i’d let a couple pages slip from the second volume of degrassi that i’m working on so people can get a taste of what to expect. these two pages are from an alice in wonderland dream sequence that starts off volume two.

it looks like it’s going to be a busy summer for little old moi. i just signed on to do the second volume of the DEGRASSI: EXTRA CREDIT graphic novel series. the books are slated to hit the shelves come the fall when the kids are back to school. each volume is black and white and clocks in at 120pages!
many moons ago i got hooked on the orginal degrassi tv series, so it’s a real treat to work on these new graphic novels and become a part of such a great canadian legacy.
below are some character sketches i did to familiarize myself with the actors.

here’s the first page, of four, of a short story written by sarrah young for a great book coming out in april called DRAWING THE LINE 2. the book is an anthology put together by cancer survivor suley fattah in an effort to raise awareness and donations for cancer research. rather than post all four pages at once, i thought i’d stagger them till the book comes out. a sneaky way of keeping people aware of it’s impending arrival.

the date is offical! this week we make the transition from webcomic bent on world domination to comic book bent on world domination!
so run, drive, stroll, meander, fly, jump, hop, skip your way on down to your local comic book habitat and pick yourself up a copy of butternutsquash number one! this fabulous first issue is a fat 40pgs of fun with no ads! 30pgs of web-content reprinted in full colour glory with about a dozen new strips added in for fun! the remaining 10 pages contain a special reprint of bns noir from last summer’s tcaf show book, five great pinups by some hideously talented boys of comicbookdom as well as a letters page, a bit of history, rob’s rant, ask evan and a spelling error to boot!
enjoy!
